Subjunctive dengan If only

Pemakaian If only sama seperti wish. Bedanya adalah kalimat yang menggunakan If only terkesan lebih dramatis.

If only + past tense

If only + past perfect tense

Contoh:

If only I were a pilot!

(Real fact : I’m not a pilot.)

If only you could tell me the answer!

(Real fact : You can’t tell me the answer.)

If only I had studied seriously!

(Real fact : I didn’t study seriously.)

If only he hadn’t told a lie!

(Real fact : He told a lie.)

Untuk subjunctive dengan Simple Past Tense, semua subjek menggunakan to be "were".
